Birkat Habaït

The Birkat Habayit, literally ‘blessing of the home’ in Hebrew, is recited when purchasing a new home or to ask for God’s blessing on a home that is already occupied.

When someone buys a new home or moves into a new property, it is customary to recite the Birkat Habayit to mark this important occasion and seek divine blessings. The blessing is usually recited during a ceremony, often attended by friends and family members.

The Birkat Habayit usually includes prayers and blessings asking for divine protection over the home and its occupants. It also expresses the wish that the home be filled with happiness, peace, prosperity, love and mutual respect.
